Montgomery Assembly of God, Outpost 72, is celebrating their 40th anniversary as an outpost this year; 1969-2009. A special 40th anniversary reunion was conducted during the Ohio Pow Wow in June. Many former members flew into town to participate, representing 7 different states, including California, Montana, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio. In total, Outpost 72 had 70 men and boys present during the weekend. They served up Montgomery Inn Ribs and fillet mignon steaks for two wonderful dinners, on Friday and Saturday night.
Over this 40 year period, Outpost 72 has had only 5 senior commanders. The original and founding senior commander, Jim Jones, passed away in 2007. The remaining four living senior commanders were present including Don Sumner (Lakeland, Florida), Don Prince (Mason, OH), Paul Hickman (Cincinnati), and Jim Hoyer (current Sr Commander). Our senior pastor Rodney Dukes and his wife Lucy were also on hand for the dinner and council fire service on Friday night. Rodney has been a great supporter of outpost 72 during his 29 years of service at Montgomery Assembly of God.
The clock was certainly turned back during the weekend of June 26, 2009, as many friendships, and old stories were rekindled during this weekend of great fellowship. A special 40th anniversary patch was give to all of the participants.
